Trendspotting: New York Fashion Week spring-summer 2025

From new ways to show skin to the return of beloved styles, here are some of the fashion trends we spotted on the runways

September has always been a significant month in the fashion industry. It is when magazines are thick, buyers and merchandisers visit numerous showrooms to select styles and pieces for the upcoming season, and designers and fashion houses go all out with grand runway shows. Leading the pack is New York Fashion Week (NYFW). From urban chic looks to modern romantic styles, here are some of the trends we saw on the runways of the Big Apple.

Prabal Gurung and 3.1 Phillip Lim

Sheer illusion

Sheer fabrics take on a moody and romantic vibe. Think of Prabal Gurung’s one-shoulder dress with fireworks-like embellishments and 3.1 Phillip Lim’s sleepwear reimagined as daywear.

Pelvic cutout

NYFW introduces a new way to bare skin. As seen in Off-White and Brandon Maxwell’s shows, pelvic cutouts are the latest sexy approach to showing skin.
