House Speaker Martin Romualdez has facilitated the request for the immediate release of P20 million in cash assistance to 2,000 families displaced by a massive fire at Barangay 105 Aroma in Tondo, Manila, last Saturday, Sept. 14.

“We facilitated the request for the immediate release of P20 million for the families affected by the Tondo fire, following President Marcos’ directive,” Speaker Romualdez said in a statement.

“This financial aid is to be provided with the help of DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) Sec. Rex Gatchalian, along with our ongoing relief efforts, will extend resources to help them rebuild their lives,” he added.

He noted that it will be sourced from the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP).

The Speaker said each affected family will be provided P10,000 to help them recover from the tragic incident.

Alongside the cash aid, the Office of the Speaker in partnership with Tingog Party-list, led by Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre, also spearheaded the distribution of hot meals on Sunday.

House Deputy Secretary General Sofonias Gabonada Jr. said 4,500 bowls of rice porridge were served across three evacuation centers.

“Hot meals in coordination with the office of Manila 1st District Rep. Ernesto ‘Ernix’ Dionisio Jr. were given to the victims to ensure that families have something to eat during this difficult time,” said Gabonada.

For his part, Dionisio expressed his gratitude to President Marcos, Speaker Romualdez, and DSWD Secretary Gatchalian for their “unwavering support and quick action” in providing much-needed assistance to the fire-affected residents.

"Their leadership and compassion have been vital in helping the community recover from this tragic incident," the lawmaker noted.

In addition, the Speaker’s office and Tingog have scheduled this Monday the distribution of relief goods.

“We have also mobilized our calamity funds to ensure that these families not only receive financial support but also have access to food and other essential items,” said Speaker Romualdez.
