Red Velvet thrills Filipino fans, overwhelmed by loud cheers: ‘You are really the best’

K-pop group Red Velvet’s fancon in Manila turned into a party, eliciting loud cheers and screams from Filipino fans.

Red Velvet’s Irene, Joy, Wendy, Seulgi and Yeri held their “Happiness: My Dear, ReVe1uv” Fancon Tour in Manila on Sept. 14 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The fancon also marked Red Velvet’s 10th anniversary since their debut in the music scene in 2014. It was also their return to the Philippines after holding their “4th Concert: R to V” in May last year at the same venue.

Red Velvet (레드벨벳) thrilled the audience with their performances and spoke about being impressed by the fans’ high energy before the start of the show until the end.

Irene, Joy, Wendy and Seulgi opened the fancon with “Happiness,” the debut single of Red Velvet that was released in August 2014. Red Velvet originally debuted with the four members while Yeri was added to the group the following year.

This was followed by “Ice Cream Cake,” which came out in 2015 and Red Velvet’s first release that included Yeri.  Before they performed “Ice Cream Cake,” Yeri emerged with a short solo dance spot and the four members welcomed her on the main stage.

“Since last year, it’s been so long that we haven’t seen each other, right? Na-miss ko kayong lahat (I missed you all),” said Irene.

Wendy said, “It’s been a year since we last came to the Philippines.”

“Your energy and the screams by Philippine fans are too much. I was really surprised,” said Seulgi.

“Earlier and also now, I was surprised. Your cheers are the best. You are the best,” said Joy.

Yeri said, “The energy of Philippine Luvies was really something. I’ve mentioned before that the energy of the Philippines among all fancon countries, you are the best.”

The songs performed by Red Velvet at the fancon consisted of tracks they released in the past 10 years.

After “Ice Cream Cake,” they performed “Parade” (2019), “Sunny Afternoon” (2016),” “Sunflower” (2024),

They also sang “Underwater” (2023), “So Good” (2018), “Bubble” (2024), “Knock Knock (Who’s There?)” (2023), “Bad Boy” (2018) and “Psycho” (2019).

Before Red Velvet launched their fancon tour in Seoul in August, they released the album “Cosmic” in June, which includes the tracks “Cosmic,” “Bubble” and “Sunflower.”

At the fancon, they continued their set with “Feel My Rhythm” (2022),” “Queendom” (2021) and “Cosmic” (2024).

For the encore, Red Velvet performed “My Dear,” (2016), “Sweet Dreams” (2024), “Red Flavor” (2017), “You Better Know” (2017), “Zimzalabim” (2019) and “Hit That Drum” (2018).

Throughout the show, the screams and cheers of the audience for Red Velvet reverberated in the whole arena.

A large banner from fans was unfurled with the message, “Thank you for the happiness. Loving you is the easiest thing we have ever done.”

Filipino fans also flew paper planes toward the stage, which carried messages for Red Velvet.

As Red Velvet wrapped up the fancon, they thanked the fans and mentioned the tremendous cheers that they received.

“We came back to Manila after one year but there was no change. When the screen opened for the performance of ‘Happiness,’ I was really surprised by your energy and screams. From the start and up to this point, time passed quickly that I don’t feel we are at the end of our show. The reason why I’m feeling this way is because you made me super happy today,” said Wendy.

She added, “Thank you for always greeting us all the time with lots of love. And because of you guys, I promise, we hope we can visit you more often.”

Irene said, “When the show started, it seemed that the venue was shaking [because of the screams]. And I really wondered what was happening outside? When I came out to the stage and the screen opened, there were so many of you and your cheers were loud that’s why I was really surprised.”

“To all of you, Manila Luvies, thank you for your gift–unforgettable memory. But of course, this tour was not easy. And because of your positive energy, I was super happy while performing on stage,” said Yeri.

Joy said, “It’s so fun in Manila. I didn’t feel tired because of the loud cheers of Manila Luvies. And your smiles gave positive energy here in the fancon. And to all the people here, our Manila Luvies, thank you for the unforgettable memory here in the show. Salamat po [Thank you].”

According to Seulgi, “It’s so fun today. And now that we saw that it’s full of people on the first floor, second floor and third floor. That’s why when we came out for our first performance, I was really surprised. Sometimes, you gotta be bold. Just rock the world.”

“Thank you so much, Manila Luvies, for keeping the energy from that rock the world up to the end of this fancon. You are really the best. Mahusay (great),” added Seulgi.

Irene said, “For sure, I will miss the energy of the Philippines, the smiles of our Manila Luvies. Of course, we will be back here in Manila. How about you, will you guys be here as well?”
