LPA east of Luzon develops into tropical depression; named 'Gener'
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the Low Pressure Area (LPA) east of Luzon has turned into a tropical depression and was given the local name “Gener,” the country’s seventh tropical cyclone for 2024.
Gener developed into a tropical depression at 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina earlier said tropical cyclone wind signals may be raised over parts of Cagayan Valley once the LPA strengthens into a depression.
There is a possibility that the potential cyclone could move close to land, Badrina warned.
He added that moderate to heavy rainfall (50 to 100 millimeters) in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Aurora.
As of 3 a.m., the weather disturbance was located 385 kilometers (km) east-northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, or 400 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
