‘Habagat’ kills 4 in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY – Four persons were killed in Western Visayas region due to the “habagat” or southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical cyclone “Ferdie.”

The Office of Civil Defense-6, the lead agency of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-6, said  in a situational report on Monday night, September 16, that two of the four casualties were from Antique province, one each in the towns of Culasi and Pandan.

Another person died in the island-province of Guimaras.

The fourth casualty was a four-year-old boy in Bacolod City who drowned when he fell into a river and swept away by strong current.

The OCD-6 said 251,331 persons from 71,371 families were displaced across the region mostly by flood.

Negros Occidental province was the most affected with 106,758 displaced persons. Antique was second with 99,296.
