The Beermen rode the momentum from the historic night of Lassiter and torched Barangay Ginebra, 131-82, to claim the top spot of Group B in a rousing fashion in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Lassiter fired four of his six triples in the first quarter not only to break the record set by Jimmy Alapag but also spearhead a blistering start that set the tone to SMB’s most lopsided victory in franchise history.

Lassiter wound up with 18 points and hiked his all-time three-point total to 1,254 at the end of the rout. June Mar Fajardo joined the celebration with 24 points and 17 rebounds while CJ Perez provided support with 22 points.

The Beermen established a 37-13 lead at the end of the opening frame and never looked back from there en route to dealing the Kings their biggest loss in franchise history.

SMB took a 66-31 lead at the break and continued to pad the lead as Ginebra looked always a step behind in the contest – seemingly an effect of their back-to-back assignments after also seeing action last Friday against Rain or Shine.

RJ Abarriento paced Ginebra with just 19 points although most of it came when the game was already out of reach for the Kings. Justin Brownlee after exploding for 51 points in their first meeting was just limited to 16 while Japeth Aguilar and Scottie Thompson had 15 and 13 respectively.
