Cops net No. 1 most wanted person in Surigao del Sur


BUTUAN CITY – Police arrested the No. 1 most wanted person in Surigao del Sur on Wednesday, September 11.

Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director Col. Harry B. Domingo, in a report to Police Regional Office-13 chief Police Brig. Gen. Alan M. Nazarro, identified the suspect as Gel.

Domingo said Gel was arrested in the municipality of Cortes, Surigao del Sur, on a warrant for rape dated February 8, 2024 issued by the Tandag City, Surigao del Sur Regional Trial Court Branch 40.

The court recommended no bail for the suspect.

Gel,  tagged as the Top 1 Most Wanted Provincial Level (MWPL) under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), was taken to the Cortes MPS for proper disposition.

Domingo cited the arrest of the suspect.

“We extend our gratitude to all of the police officers who worked tirelessly to bring this individual to justice, as well as to the public for their support and assistance,” Domingo said. “This arrest is a testament to our unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities,” he added. 

Meanwhile, police arrested five individuals for illegal cockfighting in Surigao City.

Laude said the suspects were a 56-year-old carpenter, a 54-year-old driver, a 42-year-old caretaker, a 48-year-old helper, and a 42-year-old driver.

Seized from the suspects were gaffing paraphernalia, two fighting cocks with gaffs attached to their legs, and P1,150 bet money.

Laude urged the public to refrain from participating in or supporting such illegal activities as strict penalties will be enforced against violators.

The suspects are now under the custody of Surigao City Police Station for proper disposition and filing of charges in court.
