Agents of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested a South Korean national who is wanted in his country for economic crimes involving $1 million.
The name of the Korean fugitive was withheld for security reasons. He was arrested at the BI's Immigration Regulation Division last Sept. 12 while presenting his new passport for processing.
BI Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Joel Anthony Viado said that the suspect has an active warrant of arrest issued by the Seoul Jungang District Prosecutor’s Office in 2021 for aggravated punishment and economic crimes in violation of South Korean laws.
Viado said the name of the Korean has been placed in the red notice issued by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for allegedly embezzling over $1 million by submitting loan applications.
After his arrest, the Korean national now faces a deportation case with the BI. The suspect will remain in the BI’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig pending his deportation.
