PUP student-turned-NPA amazon killed in clash

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Two New People’s Army rebels were killed in an encounter with soldiers in Sitio Pallay, Barangay Baliuag, Penablanca, this province, on Wednesday morning, September 11.

A FORMER Polytechnic University of the Philippines student-turned-amazon was among the two fatalities in an encounter in Cagayan on September 11.

The casualties were identified as Ka Jorly from Rizal, Cagayan, and Ka Nieves, a former Polytechnic University of the Philippines student reportedly recruited by the NPA in 2019. They were members of the Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley.

The 20-minute gun battle erupted as soldiers were conducting operations in the area in response to reports from residents about the presence of 17 fully armed communist guerrillas.

Troops recovered four high-powered guns in the encounter site.

A hot-pursuit operation against the fleeing rebels is underway.
