CAVITE – Donations continue to pour in for over 3,000 individuals displaced by a fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Longos, Zapote 3, Bacoor City, on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

On Thursday, Sept. 12, fire victims continued seeking temporary shelter in 16 evacuation centers within the city, where the local government unit provides them with food and essentials.

The Philippine Red Cross has also extended relief to the families affected by the fire, including medical care for those who need it.

Several individuals and civilian groups, meanwhile, have also organized donation drives for the fire victims.

Angelina Dalde, also a resident of Barangay Zapote 3, is gathering donations such as used clothes and other donations to bring to the evacuation centers.

“Naglalayon na tumulong sa aking mga kabarangay na nasunugan sa pamamagitan ng social media… Sa ngayon ang mga biktima ng sunog ay nangangailangan ng mga pagkain, toiletries, damit, at iba pa (I aim to help my fellow community members who were affected by the fire through social media... Currently, the fire victims are in need of food, toiletries, clothes, and other essentials),” Dalde told the Manila Bulletin

Fire allegedly sparked by domestic quarrel

In a video posted on Facebook on Sept. 12, Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. appealed for assistance for the fire victims and mentioned that a domestic quarrel is being investigated as a possible cause of the fire.

“They are about 3,195 individuals, dahil lang sa away mag-asawa, nag-away, at 'yun, sinunog 'yung bahay, nadamay na 'yung mga tao (There are about 3,195 individuals affected, all because of a domestic dispute. They fought, and then the house was set on fire, which ended up affecting other people),” the senator said.

According to a report from the Police Regional Office 4A, eight people have been injured in the fire, including those who suffered burns, lacerations, abrasions, and difficulty in breathing.

The senator and his wife, Cavite 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado Revilla, visited evacuation centers on Sept. 11 to offer assistance.
