BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has urged residents living near the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of Kanlaon Volcano in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental to remain vigilant.
“It is showing signs that it can really have an eruption. Right now, we’re still on Alert Level 2,” Lacson said.

Lacson hoped that the situation improves as he acknowledged the difficulties of local government units if forced evacuation will again be imposed.
He assured the provincial government’s support in case of an evacuation.
Days after Kanlaon erupted on June 3, lahar flowed in some sitios in Barangay Biak na Bato in La Castellana and some areas of Negros Occidental that affected thousands of residents. La Castellana was placed under a state of calamity the next day.
Municipal Mayor Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan held a meeting with concerned agencies and barangays on Thursday, September 12, to discuss preparations for the evacuation of communities in upper barangays within the four-kilometer PDZ.
