Lt. Col. Francisco P. Garello Jr., chief of the Public Affairs Office of the Army 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division led by Major Gen. Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, identified the surrenderers as Noel, guerilla team commander of District Guerilla Front-30, Sub-Regional Committee Westland, Communist Party of the Philippines-Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee, and Shani, platoon medical officer of DGF-30, CPP-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee.
They turned over five high-powered automatic rifles, ammunition, and CPP-NPA paraphernalia.
“These NPA officers are already tired of running in the mountains and hunger and lack of logistical support prompted them to come down and pledged to help the government’s peace and development program,” Garello said. “And besides, they want to go back home to their respective families and be productive in their communities.”
The military is coordinating with the local government unit and concerned government agencies for the surrenderers’ benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
