Minor shot dead over theft of backhoe materials

CABUYAO CITY, Laguna – A 16-year-old minor suspected of stealing backhoe materials was shot dead inside the barangay hall of Barangay Marinig, this city, on Sunday afternoon, September 8.

Police identified the victim as John Christian “Dadoy” Valenzuela, a resident of Purok 3, Barangay Marinig.

Initial investigation said Aquellino Batiao, 46, chief of barangay tanods (watchmen), invited the victim to shed light on his alleged involvement in the theft of backhoe materials owned by Dennis Tatlonghari, also a resident of Barangay Marinig.

The suspect arrived and shot the victim with a handgun, killing him on the spot.

Tatlonghari fled onboard a green motorcycle.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation.
