Cardinals survive Generals' late rally for first win

Rookie Lawrence Mangubat made heads turn by unloading 15 points spiked by five triples while grabbing three rebounds and one steal to steer the Cardinals to the winning column after an opening-day loss to the College of St. Benilde Blazers over the weekend.

Split charities from Harvey Pagsanjan and Wilmar Oftana trimmed EAC’s deficit to three, 69-66 with 51.7 seconds, but it turned out to be its last stand as it failed to capitalize on a last possession in the dying seconds after King Gurtiza missed two attempts inside the paint.

John Recto also spelled the difference for the Cardinals with 12 points, while Clint Escamis chipped in 10 points.

Pagsanjan and Gurtiza scored 14 and 11 points for the Generals, who slipped to a 1-1 card.
