BOYNEXTDOOR’s ‘19.99’ album tops music chart, sells over 600,000 copies on first day of release

K-pop boy band BOYNEXTDOOR made their successful comeback with their new album “19.99” selling more than 600,000 copies on the first day of release, surpassing the first week sales of their previous album.

BOYNEXTDOOR (보이넥스트도어), composed of Sungho, Riwoo, Jaehyun, Taesan, Leehan and Woonhak, released “19.99” on Sept. 9.

“19.99” symbolizes the moment just before turning 20 and contains seven tracks: the pre-release track "Dangerous," "Gonna Be A Rock," "Skit," lead single "Nice Guy," "20," "Call Me," and an English rendition of the lead single.

According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, “19.99” sold a total of 609,666 copies on the first day of release on Sept. 9 or an equivalent of 673,726 in physical record index to top the daily physical album chart.

The first day total surpassed the first day and first week sales of BOYNEXTDOOR’s previous album “How?,” released in April this year.

“How?” posted first day sales of 390,709 copies (an increase of 56 percent) and first week sales of 531,911 copies.

During the media showcase for the album, BOYNEXTDOOR, which debuted under KOZ Entertainment, talked about their comeback.

“The album contains all the complicated feelings that you come across as you close in on the age of 20. It’s like the growing pains of a 19-year-old all put together. So, I went back to the school I used to go to so that I could remember what kinds of things I used to think about before and get across the stories that every growing person will relate to,” said Jaehyun, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported.

The main track “Nice Guy,” produced by singer Zico, is a departure from BOYNEXTDOOR’s previous releases.

Jaehyun explained, “What makes this song so amazing is that it sticks to you differently from the first time you hear it to the fifth or 10th time. It may be different from the songs in the past, but we think it’s our duty as BoyNextDoor to always show a new side of ourselves to the audience. We think it will always be a mission for us and we think that this album may be the beginning.”

Sungho said they will try to do their best.

“We can see that more people are supporting us on the stage. Seeing people shout our names out and hold our [fan club] light sticks really makes us feel a sense of responsibility both on and off the stage. We will always try our best and never get arrogant,” he said.
