Alliance Global to increase hotel room target

Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI), the investment holding company of tycoon Dr. Andrew Tan, is ramping up its hotel business expansion target to over 12,000 rooms by 2028 to 2029 instead of 2030, as it banks on the growth of the tourism industry.

In an interview, AGI President and CEO Kevin Andrew L. Tan said, “We want to continue to invest in tourism because we see the big progress in the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure.”

He added that, “the recently privatization of NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) is, I think, a game changer for the industry. Because of that, we are very, very encouraged and we've actually trying to revise our targets.”

AGI, through subsidiaries Megaworld Corporation, Global-Estate Resorts Inc., and Travellers International Hotel Group Inc., originally set a goal of 12,000 rooms in 27 properties around the country by 2030.

“Until now, it's still about 12,000 but we might be adding more because some of the new townships that we will be launching will be very tourism-focused,” Tan said noting that, “We're looking now to launch more hotel projects to support the government's thrust to promote our site.”

He said AGI aims to continue investing and promoting the Philippine tourism and hospitality sector, “which I think has a lot of potential. We believe that our country has what it takes to become a tourism powerhouse in this side of the world. There are so many reasons that make the Philippines a unique place.”

“Because our country possesses several strengths and advantages, AGI is committed to leveraging these by meeting the demand for facilities that align with global standards,” said Tan.

AGI is currently the largest hotel operator in the country, with more than 8,000 hotel room keys spread across 19 operational, home-grown, and international hotel properties in the country.

This includes more than 7,000 hotel keys from 13 operational brands, which the company created under the Megaworld Hotel and Resorts.

In Newport World Resort, Travellers has 3,500 room keys, probably holding the distinction of having the highest hotel key count in any single property in the Philippines.

“Soon, we will also launch a new luxury development called the Newport Mansion. This new hospitality haven will feature all-suites rooms, garden villas, and pool villas,” Tan said.

Newport is connected to NAIA Terminal 3 via Runway Manila which, by 2026, will be fully connected to the rest of the resort.
