Alfamart expands to 2,000 stores in Philippines

Alfamart, the SM Group’s super minimart chain, has opened its 2,000th store in a residential village in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, as it continues to enhance grocery accessibility in local neighborhoods and communities.

"Alfamart sees immense value in serving underserved communities. Our 2,000th store marks a pivotal milestone, and the warm reception in Balibago underscores the impact our presence can have," said Alfamart Chief Operating Officer Harvey Ong.

Part of SM’s retail food business, Alfamart combines the convenience of a corner store with the comprehensive offerings of a supermarket, a concept rapidly gaining popularity across Southeast Asia, especially among families and local markets prioritizing convenience.

Alfamart offers a diverse array of products tailored for on-the-go customers, including ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat items.

Supported by efficient distribution centers in Laguna, Quezon, Cavite, Bulacan, and Pampanga, the chain ensures a consistent supply of merchandise across its network of stores.

Marking its 10th anniversary in the Philippines this year, Alfamart is a joint venture between SM and Indonesia's PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk.

Since inaugurating its first store in June 2014, Alfamart has significantly expanded its footprint, effectively enhancing access to essential goods in many underserved communities nationwide.

SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) President and CEO Frederic DyBuncio said earlier this year that Alfamart intends to increase its expansion rate from 250 new stores a year to at least 400 starting this year.
