Scottie Thompson posts triple-double as vengeful Ginebra snaps Blackwater’s run

Blackwater import George King tried to go for a step-back four pointer but his shot was blocked by Justin Brownlee right on his face. 

It was only one stop but the message was clear: King won’t have his way unlike in their first meeting.

Barangay Ginebra pulled away in the second half and sent Blackwater back to earth with a 112-98 victory to extend their winning run to three in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 10. 

Scottie Thompson led the Kings’ bid for redemption with a triple-double of 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as Ginebra created the separation behind a searing 15-2 run bridging the last two quarters.

Brownlee provided support with 20 points and nine rebounds while RJ Abarrientos had 15 and Stephen Holt and Japeth Aguilar with 14 apiece as Ginebra snapped Blackwater's streak of three games which began at the Kings' expense in the first round.

The Kings actually led by as many as 17 points in the first half but the Bossing came back roaring in the third frame when it cut the lead down to just three, 85-82 – reminiscent of their fight in the first round where they won, 95-88.

Good thing, Ginebra regained its footing just in time as Abarrientos, Thompson and Brownlee all joined hands to power the telling run and erect a 100-84 advantage.

The Kings improved to a 4-2 record while the Bossing absorbed their first loss with King for a 3-4.

King, after exploding for 33 in their first matchup was limited to just 21 points – 19 of which he unloaded in the first half, while Troy Rosario added 18. Sedrick Barefield had 15 points while Christian David and Justin Chua ended up with 13 and 12 respectively in a losing effort.
