Muntinlupa, Taguig mayors hit fake Instagram, Facebook accounts

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon and Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano denounced the emergence of fake social media accounts using their names. 

The fake Instagram and Facebook accounts of Biazon and Cayetano surfaced ahead of the filing of certificates of candidacy slated on Oct. 1 to 8 for the May 12, 2025 national and local elections.

In a post, Biazon said there is a fake Instagram account under his name. 

“Merong lumalabas na Instagram account na ginagamit ang pangalan ko; fake account po ito, at wala akong backup IG account (There is an Instagram account using my name; this is a fake account; and I don’t have a backup IG [Instagram] account),” he said. 

He urged the public that to ensure that they will get the right information, they should follow his official social media accounts. These are:

He encouraged people to report the fake Instagram account and do not reply to any message coming from it. 

Meanwhile, Cayetano said there is a Facebook created that is imitating her real account. 

“Nakatanggap kami ng ulat na may gumagaya sa Facebook page ni Mayor Lani Cayetano. Ang page na ito ay kinokopya lahat ng content mula sa tunay na page ni Mayor, at ginagamit ito upang mambiktima ng mga tao sa Facebook (We received a report that someone is copying the Facebook page of Mayor Lani Cayetano. This page copies all content from the real page of the Mayor and uses it to victimize people on Facebook),” according to a post on Facebook by the mayor’s account. 

It added that the fake Facebook page asks an OTP (one-time password) from followers and friends to access e-payment apps like GCash and Maya. 

Cayetano urged people not to follow the account and give their personal information that can be used to hack their own accounts.
