BACOLOD CITY – The city government of Canlaon in Negros Oriental suspended classes within the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of Kanlaon Volcano starting Tuesday, September 10, until further notice, due to increased seismic activity.

Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas stated in Executive Order (EO) No. 64 that classes are cancelled in Barangays Masulog, Lumapao, Malaiba, Pula, and Linothangan.
All school administrators are advised to ensure the safety and security of their premises and prepare for any emergency that may arise, Cardenas said.
The mayor said that the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has confirmed heightened seismic activity around Kanlaon, indicating potential hazards such as volcanic tremors, landslides, and the possibility of eruption, which may pose serious threats to public safety, especially in areas near the volcano.
Cardenas stressed that the safety of students and school personnel is of paramount importance and should be prioritized amid the ongoing volcanic activity and the possibility of further seismic disturbances.
All local disaster risk reduction and management (LDRRM) members, city and barangay officials, government employees, and other relevant agencies were advised to be on heightened alert and ready for immediate response.
