Museum in honor of Cardinal Sin opens in Aklan

ILOILO CITY â€“ A museum in honor of the life and legacy of the late Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin opened in Aklan province on Saturday, August 31, coinciding with his 96th birth anniversary.

Bishop Corazon Talaoc of the Diocese of Kalibo and Archbishop Victor Bendico of the Archdiocese of Capiz led the blessing and inauguration of the museum named Museo Kardinal in New Washington town.

The Diocese of Kalibo with the support of the Serviam Foundation turned the ancestral house of Cardinal Sin â€“ one of the key players of the 1986 People Power EDSA revolution â€“ into a museum.

The museum has memorabilia and personal belongings of Cardinal Sin who died in 2005. It includes those from Fr. Rufino Sescon Jr., his private secretary now rector of Quiapo Church in Manila.

Cardinal Sin was born in New Washington in 1928.

He studied at Saint Vincent Ferrer Seminary in Iloilo City and become the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Jaro here in 1972 before becoming the Archbishop of Manila in 1974.

The museum also has a coffee shop for visitors.

The opening of the museum was part of the 50th anniversary of the Diocese of Kalibo.
