VP Sara’s net satisfaction rating falls by 19 points in Q2 2024 — SWS

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from June 23 to July 1, found that 65 percent of Filipinos were satisfied and 21 percent were dissatisfied with Vice President Sara Duterte’s performance.

The second quarter of 2024 survey results, released on Friday, Aug. 9, revealed that her net satisfaction rating (percent satisfied minus percent dissatisfied, correctly rounded) was “good” at +44.

Compared to the survey conducted in March 2024 for the first quarter, SWS reported that Vice President Duterte’s net satisfaction had fallen by 19 points, from “very good” +63.

SWS in its survey results released on Aug. 2 showed that President Marcos’ net satisfaction improved from “moderate” +20 (50 percent satisfied, 30 percent dissatisfied) in March to “moderate” +27 in June (55 percent satisfied, 28 percent dissatisfied).

The SWS terminology for net satisfaction ratings is as follows: +70 and above, “excellent”; +50 to +69, “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”;-70 and below, “execrable.”

Decline across regions, groups

SWS noted that Vice President Duterte's net satisfaction rating was highest in Mindanao at +73, followed by the Visayas at +47, Metro Manila at +32, and Balance Luzon at +31.

Compared to March, net satisfaction with the Vice President fell by 26 points from +55 in Balance Luzon, 22 points from +69 in the Visayas, 17 points from +49 in Metro Manila, and seven points from +80 in Mindanao.

Meanwhile, net satisfaction with Vice President Duterte was good in rural and urban areas, at +46 and +42, respectively. 

Compared to March, it fell by 22 points from +68 in rural areas, and 16 points from +58 in rural areas.

As regards Vice President Duterte’s net satisfaction rating by gender, she received a very good rating of +50 among women and a good +37 among men. 

Compared to March, her rating fell by 17 points from +67 among women and 21 points from +58 among men.

The survey also revealed that Vice President Duterte’s net satisfaction rating was very good +59 among both 25-34-year-olds and 35-44-year-olds, good +42 among 45-54-year-olds, good +37 among 18-24-year-olds, and moderate +27 among those 55 years old and above. 

Compared to March, her rating fell by 28 points from +65 among the 18-24-year-olds, 15 points from +74 among the 25-34-year-olds, 18 points from +61 among the 45-54-year-olds, and 30 points from +57 among those 55 years old and above. 

However, it hardly changed from +62 to +59 among the 35-44-year-olds.

Meanwhile, SWS said that net satisfaction with Vice President Duterte tends to be higher among those with fewer years of formal education: it was higher among non-elementary graduates (very good +54) compared to elementary graduates (good +42), junior high school graduates (good +43), and college graduates (good +40). 

Compared to March, net satisfaction with the Vice President fell by 11 points from +65 among non-elementary graduates, 18 points from +60 among elementary graduates, 21 points from +64 among elementary graduates, and 22 points from +62 among college graduates.

Other officials’ ratings

During the survey, SWS also found that 64 percent were satisfied and 17 percent were dissatisfied with Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, 53 percent were satisfied and 24 percent were dissatisfied with Speaker Martin Romualdez, and 51 percent were satisfied and 20 percent were dissatisfied with Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.

The resulting net satisfaction ratings were moderate +29 for Romualdez and good +32 for Gesmundo. 

Escudero, surveyed for the first time as Senate President, obtained a net satisfaction rating of good +47.

Compared to March, net satisfaction rose by 16 points from moderate +13 for Romualdez and 19 points from moderate +13 for Gesmundo.

The Second Quarter 2024 Social Weather Survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,500 adults aged 18 and above nationwide. 

This included 600 respondents in Balance Luzon (Luzon outside Metro Manila) and 300 each in Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
