Meralco subsidiary to install solar facility for meat processor firm in Bulacan

MSpectrum, the solar solutions subsidiary of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), will be installing a solar facility that will help meet the electricity needs of agri-business firm May Harvest Corporation for its poultry meat processing facility in Bulacan province.

In the agreement sealed by the parties, MSpectrum Inc. will put up a 1.3 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar generating system for client May Harvest to power its tolling processing plant.

A separate 45-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar facility will also be set up at the head office of May Harvest in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.

May Harvest Chairman Efren M. Martinez said “apart from providing protection, we can now use our roof for solar panels,” adding that they would already have “solar power to operate our facility more sustainably and reduce our carbon footprint.”

The company executive expounded that the renewable energy facility will serve as anchor to their sustainability goals - primarily underpinning its carbon footprints reduction.

As emphasized by MSpectrum, upon the commercial operations phase of the two solar facilities, the scale of generation will reach as much as 1,711,060.00 kilowatt hours (kWh) on a yearly basis.

By far, on that transformative shift in the energy use of May Harvest, the estimated cost savings that it could bring about annually would hover at P12 million.

Meralco First Vice President and Head of Customer Retail Services Charina P. Padua highlighted that as customers are now opting for end-to-end solutions in their energy needs, the utility firm as a whole will go “beyond just delivering stable and reliable power.”

Additionally, MSpectrum President and CEO Ma. Cecilia M. Domingo indicated that the solar installation could result in carbon emissions reduction of 1,200 tons yearly – and that will basically redound to planting 56,000 mature trees or reduced vehicle travel of roughly 5,000,000 kilometers.
