Marcos backs PH hosting of 22nd Asian Karate Youth Championship

President Marcos has urged all government offices and local government units (LGUs) to support the Philippines' hosting of the 22nd Asian Karate Youth Championship from August 22 to 25 at the Philsports Multi-purpose Arena in Pasig City.

The two-page Memorandum Circular No. 55, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on July 16, takes effect immediately.

The Philippines, through the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation Inc., will host the 22nd Asian Karate Federation Cadets, Juniors, and U21 Championships.

According to the President, hosting the said event will serve as an opportunity for Filipino athletes.

"The Asian Karate Federation Championships is a highly-anticipated tournament of Karate in Asia, which aims to bring together the best young Karate athletes from across the region," Marcos said in his memorandum circular.

"The hosting of said event in the Philippines will not only promote the sport of Karate in the country but will also serve as an opportunity for training of Filipino athletes," he added.

A total of 38 countries and about 900 athletes are set to participate in the sporting event.

President Marcos directed the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) to implement effective measures to inform and encourage the public to support the event.
