The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) congratulated the 190 graduates of the "Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP)" administered by the Quezon City Anti-Drug Abuse Advisory Council (QCADAAC).

DDB Executive Director Earl Saavedra cited the graduates for their "unwavering dedication and commitment to personal transformation", highlighting that their successful completion of the program is a testament to their resilience and determination to reintegrate into society.

The DDB explained that the CBDRP is an integrated, localized program designed to provide accessible and affordable rehabilitation services to Persons Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) with low to mild severity of drug use.

It offers a comprehensive range of medical, psychological, and social support within a community setting, promoting both recovery and reintegration.

The collective effort of QCADAAC and various partners, including the DDB, in supporting individuals on their journey to recovery represents a significant milestone and serves as a source of inspiration for others pursuing similar paths, the DDB said.

Officials from the Quezon City government led by Vice-Mayor and QCADAAC co-chairperson Gian Sotto and QCADAAC Executive Director Alfredo Foronda attended the recent graduation ceremony.

Meanwhile, over 70 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) students graduated from the College Education Behind Bars (CEBB) program with funding assistance from the DDB at Davao City Jail for the academic year 2023-2024.

The DDB stressed that the initiative has provided the PDLs with the opportunity to earn university diplomas, representing a significant milestone toward a brighter future.

"The establishment of a new campus at Davao Prison and Penal Farm, through the partnership between the Social Entrepreneurship, Technology, Business Institute Inc., Davao Del Norte State College, and the Bureau of Corrections, has been instrumental in expanding CEBB's reach and impact," the DDB noted.

The DDB also teamed up with education professionals, program implementers and other stakeholders to further escalate the government’s anti-illegal drug campaign for the out-of-school youth (OSY) and children in street situations (CISS).

The DDB said the group participated in the Special Drugs Education Center (SDEC) program where plans, implementation successes and areas for improvement were tackled in a bid to "shape future directions for the SDEC in preventing drug abuse among out-of-school youth and children in street situations".

Kevin Bumagat, policy forum presenter from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), emphasized that the SDEC aims to implement comprehensive drug abuse prevention programs.

He stated that the objectives of the SDEC include educating on the harmful effects of substance abuse and empowering OSY, CISS and their families to manage vulnerability to drug and substance abuse.

Bumagat added that SDEC advocates for local legislation and policies supporting its initiatives, established strong linkages among key sectors and maintains data systems of the target beneficiaries for effective implementation.
