The residence of Ricardo Luis Bocalandro, Ambassador of Argentina, and his lovely wife Mme. Maria Elena Urriste de Bocalandro, was a haven of warmth and camaraderie as they welcomed guests to their residence on a rain-soaked July evening. Despite the inclement weather, friends and the Argentine community of Manila gathered to commemorate Argentina’s Day, reflecting the spirit of resilience and unity that characterizes the host and his esteemed guests.

This day marks the Proclamation of Independence when the representatives of the United Provinces of Río de la Plata gathered in Tucumán to declare the final severance of political dependence on the Spanish crown.

Ambassador Bocalandro commenced the evening with heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging the challenges brought by the heavy rain and traffic. "Unfortunately, so this is just a gathering of a few friends and I have to thank all of you for being present. In the middle of this tremendous rain that we have today, I apologize for having had you in the middle of the traffic, coming here, and having to resist this horrible weather that we are passing," he remarked, his sincerity palpable as he welcomed everyone with open arms.

With the rain abating, the ambassador showed his appreciation to the guests and extended his special thanks to those who supported the event.
The ambassador's praise for his team was unequivocal, underscoring their exceptional collaboration and dedication. "Let me tell you frankly, this is the best team I've ever had in my life. I'm proud and so honored. These people (Filipinos) are the best I've ever had in my career. Tremendous experts, good people, a tremendous vocation to help us, and all my gratitude to them, too," he said.

Argentines in Manila were able to taste a bit of home as they savored empanadas and delicious beef cuts from La Cabrera restaurant. The evening was further enriched by the mesmerizing tango performance of Andrian Lopez and Jennielyn Lopez, captivating the audience with their graceful moves and passionate display of Argentine culture.

The evening, though understated, was a testament to the enduring bonds of friendship and mutual respect. As the guests mingled and shared the joy of the occasion, the spirit of Argentina's Day was felt deeply, resonating through the shared stories, laughter, and the collective hope for brighter days ahead.
