A total of 26 medals were won by a team of young Filipino math wizards who competed in the recently concluded International Hope Cup Mathematics Invitational Global Peak Challenge in Macau, the group who trained the delegation said Thursday, August 8.

According to the Mathematics Trainers' Guild Phils. (MTG), the students won 13 individual and 13 team medals in the contest. The individual medals include 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 9 bronzes.
"The Philippine bets competed against 400-plus other math-gifted students from 13 nations -- United States, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bulgaria, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and host Macau. China, Macau and Hong Kong topped the tilt, followed by the Philippines and Taiwan," MTG head Dr. Simon Chua said.
He named the Philippine team's gold medalists as Shiyun Park from Reedley International School and Sabrina Louis Cheong from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School.
The silver medal winners are Dylan Mattews Lim and Gabriel Royce Lim, both from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School.
The bronze medals came courtesy of Sean Christan Ean Pagulong from Iloilo Scholastic Academy; Arya Kassandra Alba and Eunjae Ihn, both from Reedley International School; Alixter Shaun Chua from Grace Christian College; Angel Joedy Tasic from Creative Education for Life Learning Center; Carlo Santino Aceret from St. Jude Catholic School; Savannah Lucia Sabeen de Guzman from St. Paul College Pasig; Sry Aubree Teo from Zamboanga Chong Hua High School, and Gamaliel Layague Jr. from Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo National High School.
MTG officers Harry Uy and Juriel Polisco led the delegation.
Last month, MTG-trained teams took home a total of 143 medals, including 11 golds, from math contests in Singapore, South Korea and India.
