A Makabayan lawmaker has slammed Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jerry Acuzar for the supposed insensitive and anti-poor remarks he made during the agency’s recent budget hearing at the House of Representatives.
In particular, House Assistant Minority Leader Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas was upset during the hearing Wednesday, Aug. 7 when Acuzar said, ""Pag walang trabaho, walang pabahay (No job means no socialized housing)."
(What Secretary Acuzar said makes me both dismayed and angry. A housing chief who is mandated to provide affordable housing to poor Filipinos should think like this.)
(It's as good as them saying that if you're poor, then you don't have a right to decent housing.)
The militant solon had a hard time grasping Acuzar's statement that DHSUD's housing units under the Pambansang Pabahay Para Sa Pilipino (4PH) program worth P1.8 million each was a "win" for ordinary Filipinos.
"Ang programang ito, pang mahirap ito, pang squatters lahat ito," said the housing chief.
(This program is for the poor, these are all for squatters.)
This also didn't set well with Brosas.
