Man claims self defense in killing gunman in Manila
A 28-year-old man shot and killed a gunman using the victim's firearm in Baseco Compound, Manila, the Manila Police District (MPD) reported on Wednesday, August 7.
Police identified the suspect as Macmod Saban, a resident of Barangay 649, Port Area, Manila.
According to the police report, the suspect was walking along the street at around 8 p.m. on August 5 when the victim identified as Jeffrey Satol approached him.
Police said the victim did not speak and just drew his gun and pointed it at the suspect.
The suspect was able to grab the gun from the victim and shoot the latter several times.
Bystanders in the area reported the incident to the barangay officials and to MPD Baseco Police Station.
Responding officers said the victim died on the spot while the suspect fled towards unknown direction with the firearm.
In a follow-up operation on Tuesday, August 7, the suspect was arrested. Recovered from his possession were four pieces of fired cartridge cases of unknown firearm, a metallic jacket, and a .45-caliber pistol loaded with one live ammunition.
Investigators said the suspect told them that he shot the victim in "self-defense."
Police are still investigating the case to determine the motive of both parties in the incident.
