A few months back, Alex Cabagnot was content just being a fan enjoying the finals series between his former team San Miguel and Meralco from the sidelines.

Little did he know, he would find himself back on the PBA court and get the chance to experience the same excitement, thrill and competition once more.
The 41-year-old veteran had recently signed with Converge to backstop the team for the Governors’ Cup.
Admittedly at the twilight of his career, it was a surreal feeling for Cabagnot as he got the chance to finally end his career with the league where he created a legendary career.
“It will be a great way, this could probably be my last season. I want to end my 20th career, especially playing in the PBA. It's my 20th year going in as a professional player,” said Cabagnot during the Media Day at the Le Parc Event Hall in Pasay City.
“It’s kinda surreal because I thought I wont gonna finish (in the PBA). I had some offers in other countries, Mongolia, Taiwan and I said sana makatapos sa 20th year sa PBA. God is good,” he added.
Cabagnot last played in the PBA with Terrafirma before he was released in 2023. With no takers, he played in South Korea and recently was part of the Taiwan Mustangs that played against Gilas Pilipinas in a tuneup game.
Having gone all through that, Cabagnot admitted that he thought the PBA doors had already closed on him and he would no longer be able to have the chance to end his career in the league.
“I thought I was gonna venture off.I was in Korea then I went to Taiwan. Then being close to Taiwan bosses they had some teams in Taiwan, I tthink they are gonna open up their asian import quota, I thought i was gonna take part with that but this came up,” said Cabagnot.
“I couldn't pass up on this. I said I really want to go back to the PBA . PBA has been amazing. I met a lot of great people here. It wasn’t in the plan but when it was on the table I couldn’t pass up on it,” he added.
As part of the FiberXers, Cabagnot is expected to provide the veteran leadership and steady leadership at the point guard position all while guiding Converge’s young and talented guards in Alec Stockton, JL Delos Santos and Deschon Winston.
