PRO-8 nets P308-M illegal drugs in 2 years


PALO, Leyte – The Police Regional Office-8 seized 25.6 kilograms of shabu, 12.5 kilograms of marijuana, and 21.1 kilograms of cocaine with a total street value of P308 million from July 2022 to July 2024.

Brig. Gen. Reynaldo Pawid, PRO-8 director, said in a report detailing their major operational and administrative accomplishments during the two-year period that of the 2,936 drug-affected barangays in Eastern Visayas, only 149 barangays remain uncleared. He added that PRO-8 carried out 1,358 anti-drug operations from July 22, 2022, to July 31, 2024.

A total of 163 drug personalities surrendered, 26 were neutralized, and 1,584 were arrested, with 3,388 cases filed in court. 

Among the illegal drugs recovered were 20 kilograms of cocaine in Arteche, Eastern Samar, and eight kilograms of shabu in San Isidro, Northern Samar.

In the Recovery and Wellness Program (RWP) and Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP), PRO-8 recorded 28,513 RWP graduates (PNP-initiated), 10,711 CBDRP graduates (PNP-supported), and 39,224 total beneficiaries who have graduated from these programs. 

With strong support from the Department of Interior and Local Government’s Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) program, PRO-8 engaged a total of 91,739 advocates. 

Pawid said they continue to conduct operations and apprehend illegal drug personalities almost every day.

“We continue to monitor drug-cleared barangays with the help of our Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) if there is a resurgence of personalities engaging in illegal drugs,” he said.
