Impressive start for Pagdanganan
Over at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-En-Yvelines, Bianca Pagdanganan held her nerves and submitted an even-par 72 to giver herself at good shot at finishing respectively.
She was seven shots behind local bet Celine Boutier who had her adoring fans bursting into wild applause each time she made birdies -- she had eight for the day that more than made up for her lone bogey.
Pagdanganan is tied with defending champion Nelly Korda and Rose Zhang of the United States after gunning down three birdies in the back nine starting on hole No. 12. Also firing a 72 is Chinese star Yin Ruoning.
Fil-Am Dottie Ardina struggled and finished with a 76
South African Ashleigh Buhai, the 2022 AIG Women’s Open champion, is in second place with a 4-under 68.
The ICTSI-backed Pagdanganan bogeyed holes Nos. 4 and 5 after hitting into fairway bunkers. She also dropped another stroke on the seventh.
But she staged a furious comeback starting on the 12th, which she birdied with a brilliant approach.
She capped here wondrous back nine with a birdie on the long par-5 18th despite visiting a water hazard.
For her to advance, Ardina, whose campaign is also supported by one of the world’s leading port operators, needs to improve by leaps and bounds.
Like Ardina, Fil-Japanese Yuka Saso also needs a huge fightback after a 77.
