Benguet lone district Rep. Eric Go Yap--a known friend of Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo Duterte--has become the 103rd congressman-member of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.
Speaker Martin Romualdez, Lakas-CMD president and leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives, administered the oath of membership to Yap, a former National Unity Party (NUP) stalwart.
Joining Yap in making the jump to the administration party was Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas.
Yap has been identified with the Dutertes, particularly Rep. Duterte, since the previous 18th Congress from 2019 to 2022. Back then, Yap was one of the representatives of ACT-CIS Party-list.
He was elected to his current district seat during the May 2022
Romualdez said Lakas-CMD’s expanded membership means wider support in Congress for the administration of President Marcos Jr.
“Their leadership, experience, and commitment to serve our people greatly enhance our collective efforts to support the Agenda for Prosperity of President Marcos, Jr. and his vision for Bagong Pilipinas,” Speaker Romualdez said.
The Speaker said he was happy to welcome his new party members. “They share our principles and our aspirations for a better life for our people and a more progressive Philippines,” the Leyte 1st district congressman said.
Rep. Duterte is the son of former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is a critic of President Marcos.
