The clean-up drive was conducted by city officials led by Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of the Interior and Local government (DILG).
Launched in 2021, the "Palit Basura Para Sa Pagkain Sa Mesa" program allows residents to exchange their recyclable trash for groceries.
Spearheaded by Addition Hills Barangay Captain Carlito Cernal and Abalos, the project aims to provide its residents with food packs in exchange for recyclable materials such as plastic bags, plastic bottles, and other plastic wastes.
The collected trash will then be converted into chairs, tables, and eco bricks.
Residents can trade in a minimum of five kilos or a maximum of 10 kilos of trash per person. They will then be given a stub that they can use for grocery items such as rice, vegetables, and noodle packs.
