Former Makabayan bloc congresswoman Sarah Elago took up the cudgels for sexy actress Angeli Khang on Thursday, Aug. 8 after the latter bared her harrowing experiences in the local film industry. 

Ellago, who is now with Gabriela Party-list, says she is concerned with Khang revelations. 

"Her admission of feeling 'taken advantage of' while filming for Vivamax movies is a manifestation of the pervasive exploitation that women continue to face," Elago said. 

"We are alarmed by Ms. Khang's disclosure that she frequently felt violated during filming, with co-actors overstepping boundaries and intiating intimate scenes without directorial cues, leaving her feeling violated," she noted. 

According to Elago, the behavior that Khang describes from her co-workers "represents a gross breach of consent and professional ethics that cannot be tolerated in any workplace, much less in an industry that wields significant influence over societal norms and values". 

"In light of these issues, we will raise these concerns during the budget hearing with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB)," added the former Kabataan Party-list solon. 

"We will also introduce legislative measures that will address women's concerns in the local entertainment industry," she said. 

"We stand in solidarity with Ms. Khang and all women who have experienced similar abuses. Your voices matter, and we will continue to fight for your rights and dignity," Elago further said.
