“We have 15 interested clients who are willing to undergo vasectomy now compared to previous years because (the post) actually caught attention,” said Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, chief of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO).
The IPHO initially posted on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, August 6, the announcement:
“To celebrate your Paris 2024 Olympics victory, Iloilo PHO and its partners will offer FREE VASECTOMY to all Ilonggos named ‘Carlos’ including their friends.”
The Facebook post gained traction and was being reposted as many were thinking it was a joke.

Even after the initial Facebook announcement was changed, Quiñon explained that it was actually meant as an announcement for its activity that is part of the National Family Planning Month.
Dr. Rodney Labis, chief of the Iloilo PHO Health Service Delivery Division, said that they are trying to correct wrong notions about vasectomy among men.
“We wanted to inform the public that vasectomy is safe and effective. This can help couples who no longer want to have children,” Labis said.
Labis noted that the free vasectomy is a non-surgical procedure offered at the outpatient department of the IPHO.
