Elderly man with Alzheimer's disease dies in Sampaloc fire

A 68-year-old man died in a fire that gutted 20 houses along G. Tuazon corner Dela Fuente Street, Barangay 185 in Sampaloc, Manila on Wednesday afternoon, August 7.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said the victim, identified as Crisanto Cruz, was reportedly suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Firemen found him lying on the pavement. He was positively identified by his daughter, Criselda Cruz.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire was raised to first alarm at 5:26 p.m. and second alarm at 5:32 p.m.
Fire responders were able to control the blaze at 6:11 p.m. and extinguish it at 6:18 p.m.
Investigation disclosed that the fire started at the second floor of a two-storey house owned by Teresita Saba.
The local government said the fire displaced 50 families or 200 individuals and damaged P225,000 worth of property.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, the BFP said.
