The modernization of public utility vehicles (PUV) will continue as President Marcos disagreed with calls for the program's suspension.

"I disagree with them because sinasabi nila minadali (they are saying it was rushed). This has been postponed seven times," Marcos said in an ambush interview in Pampanga on Wednesday, August 7.
The President stressed that the public transport modernization program (PTMP), formerly known as PUV modernization program (PUVMP), was actually favored by the majority, and suspending it would be allowing the minority to dictate the fate of the entire public transport system.
"The modernization has been postponed for seven times. And those that have been objecting or have been crying out, asking for suspension, are in the minority," Marcos said.
He cited that the government has already reached 80 percent consolidation rate, which, he said, warrants the program to push through.
"Eighty percent have already consolidated. So what do we do? The 20 percent will decide the fate of 100 percent. So let us listen to the majority, and the majority says we must continue. So that's what we will do," Marcos stated in a mix of English and Filipino.
It can be recalled that senators sought the temporary suspension of the program through a Senate resolution signed by 22 senators.
Among the concerns cited by the lawmakers in the resolution were the high number of unconsolidated PUV units, low percentage of approved routes, and phaseout of the iconic Filipino jeepney design.
The PTMP started in 2017 under the previous administration to modernize jeepneys to lessen pollution, and replace units that no longer roadworthy.
