The Chargers shrugged off their erratic start and regained their composure where they played an all-around game to finish the preliminaries unscathed with a 5-0 record.
Oly Okaro stepped up anew with 24 points off 22 kills, one block and one ace including the game-winning point for Akari that halted a late rally from Cignal spearheaded by MJ Perez.
The Chargers’ local stars in Ivy Lacsina and Ced Domingo saw great improvement in their team’s chemistry, especially backing up Okaro.
“Kung ano naman pong kailangan kong ibigay sa team and support na kailangan ni Oly (Okari), kaming mga local players tutulungan namin sya,” said Lacsina.
“I’m happy we’re getting there and I’m happy din in every game lahat kami involve and trusting the system of coach Taka (Minowa),” Domingo added.
The duo indeed produced great numbers offensively as Lacsina and Domingo added 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Grethcel Soltones had a quiet eight markers.
Perez pumped in 24 points in a losing effort for Cignal, which absorbed its first loss in five outings.
The HD Spikers, though, didn’t give an easy fight, bouncing back in the fourth set after a 7-1 blitz which cut the Chargers’ lead to just two, 22-24, but that was their final hurrah as Okaro and Lacsina put up the finishing touches for the Taka Minowa-guided squad.
