ILOILO CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in an 15-minute encounter with soldiers in Calinog town, Iloilo province on Monday, August 5.

The 12th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army has yet to identify the fatality but said he could be a ranking-leader of the NPA Central Front Committee in Panay Island.
Recovered from the fatality were an M16 rifle, an M14 rifle, an AK-47 rifle, an M203 grenade launcher, an Ultimax light machine gun, three rifle grenades, and ammunition.
The 301st Infantry Brigade called on the remaining NPA in Panay Island to go back to the fold of society.
