Manila's Olympians: Yulo to get P2 million, Obiena to receive P500,000 cash incentives from city gov't

The city government of Manila will award two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo P2-million cash to honor his talent, dedication, and outstanding contribution to the Philippine sports following his historic feat at the Paris Olympics.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan said Yulo will receive P1 million for each gold medal he won.
"Deserve 'yan ni Caloy, na isang proud Manileño, nag-aral sa Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School sa Malate, ilang beses naging pambato ng Maynila sa Palarong Pambansa, at nag-kolehiyo sa Adamson University dito sa Maynila (Caloy deserves that, who is a proud Manileño, studied at Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School in Malate, became Manila's best player for several times at the Palarong Pambansa, and went to college at Adamson University in Manila)," she said.
The local government said a grand parade will be held in Manila to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Yulo and Tondo Olympian pole vaulter Ernest John "EJ" Obiena.

The city mayor also congratulated Obiena after he ranked fourth place in a nail-biting final round for the Men's Pole Vault event at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, August 6.
"We congratulate Ernest John Obiena on his best Olympics finish so far in his still young athletics career. The 4th Place finish was his best effort at that high pressure moment," the mayor said.
She announced that the young athlete from Tondo will also receive P500,000 cash incentive from the city government to recognize his exemplary performance.
"Mga yakap ng pagmamahal at maliligayang ngiti ang sasalubong kay EJ Obiena sa kanyang pag-uwi dito sa Maynila. Naghihintay kami, lalo na ang mga kabataang Manileño, sa kanyang pagdating (Hugs of love and happy smiles will greet EJ Obiena when he returns home in Manila. We, especially the young Manileños, are waiting for his arrival)," she added.
GRAND PARADE
The city is currently gearing up for a grand parade for Obiena and Yulo.
It has not yet disclosed the date and route of the parade.
The hero's welcome, she said, will end at Manila City Hall, where the Paris Olympians will receive the cash incentives, and recognition from the local government.
According to the city government, Lacuna-Pangan wants to ensure that the youth will witness the parade.
"This way, what they only see on TV, they can experience up close... Our Manileño pole vaulter from Tondo and fellow Thomasian shall be proudly and joyfully welcomed in the country’s capital when he comes back home here with his family, friends, and neighbors," the lady mayor said.
She said the Manila schools’ students, in coordination with the Department of Education and the private schools, may come and witness the hero's welcome on the streets of Manila.
"Caloy and EJ exemplify what our youth can achieve through dedication, discipline, and community support. Their victories and unwavering spirit will always be a source of pride for the City of Manila," the local chief executive added.
