Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and former Marikina City 2nd district Rep. Miro Quimbo--considered heavyweights in the realm of Metro Manila politics--have joined the fold of the House Speaker Martin Romualdez-led Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.
Romualdez, president of Lakas-CMD, administered the oath of membership separately to Lacuna and Quimbo during simple rites held at the Social Hall of the Speaker’s Office in the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 6.
"We are honored to welcome Mayor Honey Lacuna and former Marikina Congressman Miro Quimbo into the Lakas-CMD family," said Romualdez, leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
Lakas-CMD has 102 members in the House, making it the dominant party in the legislative chamber.
Romualdez, Leyte's 1st district representative, highlighted the strategic importance of the new members in bolstering the party's support for the programs and policies of President Marcos.
The Speaker expressed confidence Lacuna and Quimbo would provide significant contributions in upholding the principles and objectives of Lakas-CMD, and reinforce the party’s dedication to serving the Filipino people.
"Their leadership, experience, and commitment to serve our people greatly enhance our collective efforts to support the Agenda for Prosperity of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and his vision for ‘Bagong Pilipinas’," Romualdez said.
Lacuna became the first female Mayor of Manila after winning the 2022 mayoralty race. She started her political career as a member of the City Council in 2004 and was elected as Vice Mayor in 2016.
Meanwhile, Quimbo served as Marikina congressman from 2010 to 2019. He was one of the deputy speakers of the House of Representatives of the Philippines from 2016 to 2018.
He was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife, incumbent Marikina 2nd district Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo.
In a show of solidarity and support, Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo and 20 members of the City Council accompanied Lacuna to the oath-taking rites.
