Estrada pushes for Senate resolution honoring Mother Lily
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada has filed a resolution honoring the contributions of renowned star-maker Lily Yu Chu-Monteverde, known as “Mother Lily,” in the Philippine entertainment industry.
Estrada filed Senate Resolution No. 1109 on Monday, August 5 which also expresses the Senate’s sympathy and condolences on the death of the Philippine cinema icon.
The matriarch of the film production company Regal Entertainment and Regal Films passed away at the age of 85 last Sunday, August 4.
“Mother Lily continues to be an inspiration not just to producers and stars but also aspiring filmmakers, artists, and workers for her trailblazing career and passion for excellence,” Estrada stated in the resolution.
“She truly made a remarkable imprint in Philippine cinema and entertainment as a whole,” the senator stressed.
Monteverde’s contributions to the entertainment industry are immeasurable, having started her journey in Philippine show business in August 1962 when she borrowed P10,000 from her older brother Jessie Yu to buy the rights to the tearjerker “All Mine To Give,” which raked in over P500,000.
After this initial, but highly successful stint, Monteverde produced local films, starting with “Araw-Araw, Gabi-Gabi” that was top billed by Charito Solis and Didith Reyes and which opened in cinemas on Sept. 21, 1975.
Monteverde is also credited for producing critically acclaimed masterpieces such as “Manila By Night,” “Sister Stella L,” and “Broken Marriage.”
She also produced the popular “Mano Po” anthology and the “Shake, Rattle & Roll” series.
