BACOLOD CITY – A 49-year-old purok or community leader passed away on Sunday, August 4, three days after he was injured in a fire in Purok Kingfisher, Barangay 16, this city, on August 1.

Fire Supt. Jenny Mae Masip, city fire marshal, identified the victim as Alejandro Tiad.

Tiad sustained thermal burns and injuries after he returned to his house to ensure the safety of his children amid the fire early Thursday morning, August 1.
He was rescued by firefighters who heard him shouting for help when he was trapped.
The blaze caused by an overheated ceiling fan destroyed 10 houses and partially damaged five others.
In a Facebook post, Barangay 18 Captain Jason Ligaya said that Tiad was a cherished member of their community and his absence will be profoundly felt.
“We mourn the loss of his presence and the countless contributions he made to our neighborhood,” Ligaya said.
Ligaya condoled with the family of Tiad in behalf of the council, staff, and residents of Barangay 16.
“May the memories of Alejandro's kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit continue to inspire us all,” the village chief said.
