Abra solon seeks House commendation for Yulo

Citing Carlos Yulo's "unprecedented victory" in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Abra lone district Rep. Ching Bernos has filed a resolution to commend and congratulate the gymnast.

Bernos, a vice chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations, filed House Resolution (HR) No.1839, which hailed Yulo for winning two gold medals in the men’s floor exercise and men’s vault events in the Paris games.

The lady lawmaker says Yulo deserves to be commended because of his “unprecedented victory that brings pride and honor to the Philippines".

She says that Yulo sets "an admirable example to the Filipino youth to pursue sports as a way to instill discipline and to improve one’s mind and body".

Bernos also urged the House leadership to award Yulo with the Congressional Medal of Excellence that was awarded to weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in 2021 for winning the country’s first-ever Olympic gold medal during the Tokyo games.

"Because of the two (2) gold medals won by Carlos Edriel Poquiz Yulo in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, the Philippines now has three (3) gold medals in its entire participation in the Olympic Games," read HB No.1839.

"Yulo achieved a long overdue dream for the Philippines Olympic delegation in 2024 Summer Olympic Games through two (2) gold medals, the biggest haul of a Filipino athlete in a single edition of the Olympic Games," It added.
