The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.2-magnitude earthquake that hit Davao Oriental at 1:39 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Phivolcs said the tremor, which occurred at a shallow depth of 1 kilometer, was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.8 quake that rocked Surigao del Sur on Aug. 3.
The epicenter of the aftershock was located 101 kilometers northeast of Baganga, Davao Oriental.
Phivolcs recorded the quake at Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.
The earthquake was tectonic, meaning it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, Phivolcs does not expect significant damage.
