The implementation of the four-point line drew mixed reactions from fans and coaches alike – with some very much open to exploring the possibility of it becoming a staple to PBA games while some openly criticized the bold innovation.

Marcial clarified that the league is still looking at how the new rule would impact the game and attract fans this year before deciding whether it would be permanently implemented in the upcoming seasons. 

“Pagbigyan niyo muna kami,” Marcial told reporters during the Arena Plus PBA Media Day at the Le Parc Event Hall on Monday, Aug. 5.

“Tingnan natin kung successful pag hindi, tingnan natin ano ‘yung magagawa natin. pwedeng tanggalin,bagong innovation so subukan muna natin,” he added.

Marcial said the implementation of the four-point shot is still in its exploratory phase, and depending on the results could even be scrapped altogether.

“For this season yon. Tingnan natin. Kung magiging successful, diretso na yan. Kung hindi, yan tingnan natin kung ano pwede nating gawin. Pwede ring mawala, so as of now, may four- point shot."

Marcial said he was well aware of the reactions of the coaches like Tim Cone and Yeng Guiao, who both expressed reluctance on the new rule, but the league chieftain was very much fine with it. 

For one, the new rule drew a unanimous decision from the board of governors according to Marcial. 

“Katulad ng sinabi ko sa planning namin sa japan. well represented, nandun lahat ng governors. Walang kumontra unanimous. Nandoon din yung PBA so sa tingin namin magandang innovation,” said Marcial citing the thrill and excitement the four-point shot had brought during the All-star games.

“Sa mga coaches syempre merong may ayaw, merong may gusto pero okay lang yon kasi di pa nila nasusubukan. Subukan muna natin tapos kung maganda o hindi,  para magkaroon ng bagong innovation tingnan natin kung sasaya ang mga fans,” he added.
