CEBU CITY – A 25-year-old man has admitted killing a 27-year-old saleslady after the victim refused to have sex with him.
Darren Cui admitted that he assaulted Charina Relativo inside the victim’s boarding house in Barangay Bulacao here on Friday morning, August 2.

Cui was arrested on Saturday, August 3, after he was caught possessing a .45 caliber pistol in Barangay Sambag 2 here.
Police Col. Antonietto Cañete, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, said Cui admitted to the gruesome crime.
Cañete presented the suspect to the media at the CCPO headquarters on Monday afternoon, August 5.
Police learned that the suspect and the victim were board mates. The victim was alone in a room when the crime happened as her live-in partner Jungie Enriquez had left ahead for work. The couple worked in a same mall in uptown Cebu City.
Cui admitted being drunk when he barged into the room of the victim around 7 a.m. The suspect said he chanced upon the victim taking a bath and dragged her outside the comfort room.
The suspect said he forced Relativo to have sex with him but the victim resisted, causing a commotion inside the room.
Cui said he and the victim wrestled until they fell on the floor. The suspect choked Relativo until she passed out.
Police released an autopsy report showing that the victim’s cause of death was “asphyxia by manual strangulation.”
In an attempt to conceal the crime, Cui admitted trying to set Relativo on fire using a butane burner which was the reason why she was found with burnt hair. The victim was also naked when neighbors found her unconscious.
“I wanted the people to think that she just lost consciousness because she was suffocated by smoke. I am admitting this because my conscience is bothering me,” Cui said.
Cañete said a murder case will be filed against Cui on Wednesday, August 7. A separate charge for illegal possession of firearms has been filed against the suspect.
He said police are still awaiting the result of the forensic examination to determine if the victim was raped. The suspect denied raping the victim.
Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Garcia commended the CCPO for a quick resolution of the case. Garcia went to the CCPO on Monday afternoon to check on the suspect.
“This is a heinous crime and this has no place in Cebu City,” Garcia said.
