Gymnast Carlos Yulo's double-gold achievement in the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics continues to mesmerize Filipinos, and House of Representatives members are no exception.
1-Pacman Party-list Rep. Mikee Romero was so impressed with Yulo's feat that he gave the latter a new moniker.
"KING CARLOS, Salamat for making us all proud and living witnesses 🇵ðŸ‡ðŸ‡µðŸ‡ðŸ¥‡ðŸ¥‡ (King Carlos, thanks for making us all proud and living witnesses)," the chairman of the Committee on Poverty Alleviation wrote on Facebook Monday, Aug. 5.
"It Never even crossed my mind that in my lifetime, I will witness a single Filipino Athlete who can win two gold medals in one Olympics," Romero said.
Negros Occidental 3rd district Rep. Francisco Benitez, hailed the 24-year-old gymnast for his feat over the weekend in Paris.
"🎉 Congratulations to Carlos Yulo for making history as the Philippines' first-ever Olympic double gold medalist! 🥇🥇 Your incredible performances on the men's vault and floor exercise at the Paris 2024 Olympics have brought immense pride to our nation," Benitez said.
"Salamat (Thanks) and cheers to your remarkable achievement! 🇵🇠#Paris2024 #ProudPinoy," he added.
Another well-wisher for Yulo is Deputy Majority Leader Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list Rep. Margarita "Migs" Nograles. "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo on his double gold victory," she said.
"Your remarkable achievement is a testament to your dedication, hard work, and talent, and it serves as an inspiration to all Filipino athletes striving to become world-class champions like you," Nograles said.
"Your success reminds us all of the potential our athletes hold and underscores the importance of focusing on sports where Filipinos can truly excel. The whole country is proud of you, Carlos! Mabuhay ka! (Long live!)" the lawyer-solon further said.
