'Habagat' to bring scattered rains to parts of Luzon, Visayas
PAGASA monitors 2 LPAs
Light to sometimes heavy rains due to the southwest monsoon, locally called “habagat,” may affect parts of Luzon and Visayas over the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Aug. 5.
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the habagat may bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Central Visayas.
PAGASA warned of potential flash floods and landslides due to moderate to occasional heavy rains in these areas.
Meanwhile, Mindanao, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and the rest of Visayas may experience Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat.
Similar conditions may affect the rest of the country because of localized thunderstorms.
The public is also advised to stay vigilant for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
2 LPAs form
Meanwhile, PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said two low pressure areas (LPA) have developed from cloud clusters being monitored east of the country.
As of 3 a.m., the LPA within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) was located 1,155 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon.
Another LPA was located east of Luzon but outside the PAR.
Badrina noted that, as of Monday, both weather disturbances have a low probability of developing into tropical depressions and are not expected to directly affect any part of the country at this time.
However, he added that PAGASA will continue to monitor these LPAs for possible changes in the forecast in the coming days.
